The Tri-State Budgerigar Society Show was held on July14, 2001, at the All Saints Episcopal Church in Staten Island, New York. There were a total of 129 birds, with 22 exhibitors showing.
The Second place was a magnificent Grey Green cock owned by Joe and Rose Lastella. This bird was as close to the ideal as you can get and was in perfect condition all day throughout the show. This was the fourth show the bird has been in and it has won the other three shows in which it was entered. The bird that beat it was a Light Green cock, also owned by Joe and Rose Lastella. This bird was at least 11-12 inches long and the only fault I could find with it was that it was too big for the showcage. This bird is what the ideal will probably be in about five or six years from now. It was just a magnificent bird and probably the best Light Green in the country today.
The Third place bird was a Light Green cock owned by Chuck Romano. This bird should win most shows that it enters, but, unfortunately, it was shown against two of the best birds in the country at that time that could beat it.
Fourth and Fifth place were Grey Green and Light Green cocks owned by Ron Rebhan. These were two very nice birds. Sixth place was a Light Green cock owned by Rose and Joe. Seventh was another Light Green cock owned by Pablo Ortiz. Eighth was a nice, stylish, Light Green cock owned by Stu Sacks. Ninth was another stylish Light Green cock owned by Joe Sabella and tenth was a young one-year-old Grey Green cock owned by Ron Rebhan.
Best Intermediate in show was a Grey Green cock owned by Michael Bandimere. Second and Third place were real nice Dark Green and Grey Green cocks owned by John and Greer Sucke. These birds would have made the top bench at most shows, however, probably the best Light Greens and Grey Greens in the country are located here in the Tri-State area.
Best Novice was a good-looking Light Green cock owned by Martha Griner, who was not at the show, but her husband Bill graciously showed the birds for her. (Way to go Bill!) The Novice and the Intermediate birds were some of the best I have seen in the country. Best Rare was a very nice Greywing cock owned by Pat and Frank Gaggi.
I wish to especially thank Pat and Frank Gaggi for letting us stay in their home for this show, Chuck Romano for dragging me all over the place, and Rose and Joe Lastella for letting me see their wonderful stud of birds.
