Show Information and Rules
(Applies to All Birds Entered)
BAA - Budgerigar Association of America
TSBS - Tri-State Budgerigar Society
All birds must be entered in the
appropriate categories within the three hour period between the hours of 7:00 AM
and 10:00 AM on the day of the show. Entries will be closed at 10:00 AM and the
judging will begin promptly, beginning with the Open Pet Divisions.
There is no limit on the number of birds that each exhibitor may enter so long
as the allowed number of birds per cage is adhered to. For each exhibitor and
division entered, there is a $2.00 entry fee per bird, up to ten birds; no fee
for additional birds.
This show is only for the larger birds known as "Exhibition Budgerigars (English)"
or the smaller birds referred to as "Common Pet Parakeets (American)." There will
be two separate categories sponsored by BAA and TSBS. Each bird may only be entered
once - for one show, division and class. An exhibitor entering birds in the BAA
category may enter birds in only one of those divisions but may still enter other
birds in either or both of the TSBS category by filling out a separate entry form.
An exhibitor may enter a higher BAA division than they are qualified for but may
not enter a lower division than for which they are qualified for. Anyone entering
birds that is unsure of how or where to enter birds is encouraged to ask a TSBS
member for assistance rather than enter birds incorrectly. If a bird is entered
in a wrong class, every attempt will be made to correct the error when the bird
is checked in or before the correct class is judged; after that, the bird risks
being disqualified. The show committee reserves the right to check band numbers
where applicable or to refuse any exhibit it considers detrimental to
the show. All birds must be checked in and out by show personnel. Only the judge
or show personnel may handle exhibits, go behind the staging area or come up to
the bench during the judging. The Pet Divisions will be judged first and they are
the only birds that may be requested by their owners after judging and awards
distribution that can leave the premises before the entire show is over. When
all winners are announced and awards presented, all exhibitors with birds winning
in BAA Divisions, Best in Show and Best of Variety Challenge Certificates are asked
to allow birds to remain on the staging for view and photographs for no less than
15 minutes for the enjoyment of those present. This is also in consideration of
the show personnel that have not really had a chance to watch the judging as it
took place. The birds not on the final bench may be checked out immediately after
judging by presenting a steward with your yellow copy of the entry form. For
security reasons, identification may be asked for.

TSBS Open Pet Divisions
(Open to all birds whether or not bred by owner)
A) Large Exhibition Type (English)
B) Small Pet Type (American)
Those exhibitors entering birds in the Open Pet Division, may bring
birds for either or both of the listed divisions but a separate entry
form must be filled out and birds brought for both may not be in the
same cage. The exhibitor may choose to enter either type of bird in either
division but a small type pet will not fairly compete against the larger
exhibition birds and a large exhibition type would not have an advantage
in the smaller pet type division. Children entering in the A division may
be disappointed if they enter birds and place low or not in the ranking.
It depends on what type of award you would like to win. For either category,
the following applies.
· $2.00 entry fee per bird, $20.00 maximum for each Pet Division
entered per exhibitor.
· Any cage is fine, (smaller cage if possible); no name should be visible.
· No more than two birds per cage; toys, seed or water are allowed.
· Any age; any bird whether exhibitor bred or not; band or no band;
no Schedule of Classes used.
· Birds with clipped wings or multiple spots may be shown; but this may
result in a lower rank.
· To enter birds, a two part entry form (white and yellow) must be completely
filled out.
· Name, address and bird's complete description must be given.
· Show Secretary issues cage numbers and matching numbered show tags
for proper division.
· Complete show tags with name, address and bird's description.
· Hang tag for matching bird on the cage on the lower left cage bar.
· Stewards check form, tags and birds; stage birds and give exhibitor
yellow copy of entry.
A) Large Exhibition Type (English)
The best ten birds shall receive rosettes based solely on show quality
appearance and not on pet appeal. Ranking to be based on condition, size,
adherence to what the standard calls for on the variety or color being
shown and comparison to other birds in the category.
B) Small Pet Type (American)
Birds will be given certificates for a variety of awards based solely on
their pet appeal and not on show quality. As example; Most Colorful,
Most Acrobatic, Friendliest, Best Talker, etc.
Responsibility Waiver
Entry and payment constitutes acceptance of all show rules. TSBS and
its members accept no liability or responsibility for loss or damage
to exhibited birds, property or for injuries to any members, exhibitors,
vendors or guests either at or enroute to or from this show or any meeting
or function of the club.
